Lattanzio, Thierry (2006) Characterisation of firms organised in "engineer-to-order". PhD thesis Génie industriel, ENSAM 2006ENAM0039 p.178.
Abstract
In design and control of production systems, the “Engineer-To-Order” mode of management becomes increasingly frequent. Its characteristics are analyzed in the thesis on the basis of an information collection carried out during the consulting activities of the author. The main results lead to the conceptual clarification of this mode of management, in relation to the recent developments of standardization as regards system engineering. We identified each mode of management in order to position and characterize the “Engineer-To-Order” mode and its main principles.
This study led us to structure our work in three steps. The first step deals with the formalization of information flows associated with this mode with management to build a generic model and to identify the enterprise functions used by “Engineer-To-Order” mode of management. The second step of our work deals with the decisional modelling of this mode of management. We used the GRAI method, because of its adequacy to the concerned problems and its broad diffusion in our scientific field. The third step deals with the development of a diagnosis tool which makes it possible to compare the characteristics of a company organized a priori in an “Engineer-To-Order” way with the decisional model such as we defined it.
