Abstract
The thesis focuses on the action of an institutional entrepreneur in redesigning the Grenoble cluster and most specifically in the early phase of his action. The transformation is described as the emergence of a new institution. The emphasis is put on "things in the making" using sociological and ethnographic methods to complement management ones. Theoretical contributions are (1) the mobilisation process of supports and resources is organised from and to the outside audiences of the innovation centre; (2) the discourse aiming at supporting the creation of the institution results from the set up of a discourse factory and a discourse company (with all its attributes); (3) the constitution of the institution is based on the organisation of tests which build on and reinforce the discourse (narraction). The thesis also develops an original methodology based on powerpoint presentations and invites researchers to do so to face challenges raised by the increasing use of NTIC.
