Abstract

Today faced with an increasingly keen international competition, small and medium-sized French companies must optimize their "Cost/Quality/Time" triptych by developing new manufacturing technologies. It is true that in order to answer complex markets and heavy competitiveness, the technological innovation becomes a strategic criterion for a majority of the French companies. However innovating technologically is not something simple and innate. It's a process which calls upon the multidisciplinarity - i.e. the meeting of various complementary technical skills. This encourages firms to innovate in partnership with research centers and expert companies. But to ensure the perenniality of their activities and their future manufacturing process, the industrialists must be able to control their innovation at the end of the "co-development". Faced with these situations which do not facilitate the success of technological innovations, we advance two hypothesies: the design of a collaboration process from the upstream phases of the innovating project and the achievement of a technological gap by the definition of a minimum threshold of technical knowledge to control. We experimented these proposals within a project of designing a cladding laser process for rotary cutting dies. The result of this research enabled us to propose a technological innovation process model which can be used as a support to the persons in charge of innovating project within SME.
