Abstract

Capillary electrochromatography (CEC) is regarded as a very promising analytical separation method that combines advantages of CZE and HPLC. Polymeric monolithic capillary columns have received much attention because of the easiness of the preparation, the adjustable composition and polymerization process. These new phases can be easily transposed for microsystem.
We studied the optimization of the in-situ synthesis of monoliths. Series of monolithic columns were prepared by photopolymerization of acrylate monomers. The energy dose imposed and the nature of the pretreatment were studied. The obtained results were treated by statistical methods.
We also present the results obtained with monoliths tested as both preconcentration and separation materials. Studies were conducted on model compounds. Separation efficiencies ranging from 250 000 to 350 000 plates per meter and preconcentration factor above 10 000 were found. These two procedures were then adapted to microdevices, with success.
