Abstract
In order to establish environmental risks of metal contaminated soils, the knowledge of factors conducting to the mobility and bioavaibility of metals in soils is necessary. One of these factors is the presence of mobile colloids in soil solution which may present a way of metal transfer through soils. The objective of this work was to study the role of natural colloids circulating in gravitational waters of soils in the metal mobilization in solution. The finality of this study was to obtain integrable generic data in chemical speciation models in order to predict quantitatively the role of these colloids in the mobilization of metals in solution. For this, we have adopted a descending approach starting from the natural environment and adapting techniques and tools developed for well characterized materials, for natural environmental particles collected in situ. So, we have studied the physicochemical and complexation properties towards metals of colloids in gravitational waters of different contaminated soils (mineral pollution or input of exogene organic matter). Since the nature of colloids depends on soil type and its functioning, this approach allowed to include the influence of colloid nature on the metal complexation properties. In order to valid the acquired data in laboratory, they are introduced in a geochemical calculation program
(PHREEQC) to take into consideration the colloidal forms in solution. The obtained results are compared with the determination of the metal speciation in soil solutions collected in situ
(ultracentrifugation, ultrafiltration).
